Brightwell recently signed a two year contract as a professional with the USL1 outfit and with pre-season not due to commence until March 2008, Brightwell has joined initially on a months loan which could possibly see the deal extended until March 2008. The 28-year old midfielder started his career with Manchester United and then played 30 games for Hartlepool United in the Football League before playing non-league with Bishop Auckland, Durham City, Spennymoor United, Billingham Town, Horden CW and scored hat-trick in the final of the FA Sunday Cup for Hetton Lyons CCFC at Anfield in 2006. Although Brightwell will not be involved against Durham City in the Quarter Final of the Durham Challenge Cup on Tuesday night, the club are hopeful the necessary paperwork will be completed and cleared for the weekend's league fixture between the two clubs.

Monday 10th December

Spennymoor's leading goal scorer Adam Johnston has joined Arngrove Northern League title challengers Durham City on a part-exchange deal with their top goal scorer Jamie Clarke, with 14 goals, coming the other way combined with an undisclosed fee.  It has been believed Durham City had been chasing 'Super Ad', who has scored 23 goals so far this season for Spennymoor, for some time now but the decision was finally made to allow Durham approach Adam when UniBond First Division North club Newcastle Blue Star put in 7 days notice which allows non-contracted players to leave on a free transfer to a different club in a different league (league is not to be confused with division).

All at Spennymoor wish Adam the best of luck in the future.

Latest Transfer News Update
Thursday 6th December

Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley has given reasons to why both Ben Escritt and Ian Dixon have been transfer listed.  As we know Ben Escritt is currently injured and is unlikely to play until the end of Feburary, we also have two very good goalkeepers in Niki Lawson and Stuart Dawson currently signed on.  Ian Dixon is looking for a club closer to his home due to a new arrival in his family, Ian will continue to be fully committed to Spennymoor in the meantime.  Also transfer listed by the club are Nick Scaife, Scott Thompson and Paul Greenwell.

The club are close to completing a couple of signings that have a hunger to play for Spennymoor.

We'll Always Be United
Sunday 11th November

"We'll always be United" is the in-depth story of two clubs with a shared history.

Spennymoor United played for more than a century at the Brewery Field, before it withered away in 2005, but newcomers Spennymoor Town quickly took its place.  Not only does the book contain historical accounts of United's many honours in the North Eastern League, Northern Premier League and Northern League and various cup competitions, but also many of its famous players and regular fans have recalled their memories. Kenny Banks, who was regarded as one of the best ever players to wear the black and white shirt, remembers Moors' 1975 FA Cup win over Football League club Southport, former skipper Albert Hickman talks about the run to the 1978 FA Trophy semi final, and Kevin Reilly, who once turned down the chance to join Nottingham Forest when Brian Clough was their manager, remembers the day he nervously turned up for an important game with a head injury sustained in a Sunday match.  Fans also recall their elation and heartache following the Moors; the fight back against Ashton United that clinched promotion in 1994, the hammering at Leytonstone in the Amateur Cup in the early sixties, the battling display at Chesterfield in the 1990 FA Cup.  The book also charts the birth and early growth of the club, most of it down to one man, Thomas Grant, who probably said way back in 1904, "We'll always be United"

The club is also organising a reunion on Saturday 24th November, to which many former players have been invited. Kenny Banks, Mattie Pearson, Micky Heathcote, Andrew Shaw, Brian Mulligan and Alan Kell have all said that they're coming. The book, priced £9.99, will be launched the same night.  Tickets for the evening, that includes entertainment and a bite to eat, are £10.

Moors Loan Donny Younger Noble
Monday 5th November

Spennymoor have pulled off a coup by signing 19 year old Matthew Noble on a months loan from Coca Cola League One Doncaster Rovers. Noble, a right full back, signed his first professional contract in the summer after impressing Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll for the reserves, was named youth player of the year last season and has been named in the first team squad on a number of occasions this season and featured regularly for the Reserves at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Secretary Stands Down
Monday 15th October

The Club are inviting applicants for the post and anyone interested is urged to contact the club for further details by post to The Brewery Field, Wood Vue, Spennymoor. DL16 6JN

Carl takes over the role following Darren Roulston's appointment of First Team Coach in the summer. Spennymoor through and through, both the player and committee are delighted that the Management team Jason Ainsley and Gary Hinchley have decided to hand him the role which started in Saturday's opening day win over Seaham Red Star. It is understood that fellow defender Mark Foster will continue to deputise as vice captain for the second season in succession.

Permission Granted
Thursday 9th August

After a meeting between Spennymoor Town Council and the Football Club the council have given Spennymoor FC permission to continue playing at The Brewery Field until Tuesday 4th September when a decision will be made with regards to the future lease of The Brewery Field which has been the home of football in the town for 103 years, this comes after the council handed the club a 28 day eviction order that meant the football club would have to vacate the premises by Wednesday 22nd August.  The hard work down at the ground by the club committee, club chairman, vice chairman and the clubs loyal supporters have contributed positively to this decision, we hope this is one step to safeguarding the future of football in Spennymoor.  This means Spennymoor will be hosting Chester-le-Street Town on Saturday 25th August and the local derby against Bishop Auckland on August Bank Holiday Monday both games kick off at 3.00pm.

Spennymoor FC History Meeting
Sunday 27th May

The football club is holding a meeting for all fans past and present at the Brewery Field on Tuesday 5th June starting 7pm.  Present will be The Northern Echo's/BBC Radio Cleveland Sports writer/commentator Ray Simpson, who is in the process of writing a book on Spennymoor football club, therefore this is essential for tracing some of the past players and it will be a night where we can all reminisce about past memories.

All are welcome.
